Cashel Palace Hotel hosted a wonderful night recently - the ‘Junior Entrepreneur Project’ of Ballytarsna’s 5th and 6th class schoolchildren.
They produced a charity single of an original song, ‘Freedom’ in aid of Childline ISPCC. It seemed so fitting that the proceeds of this night of joy and celebration for the children and school community, would help to secure the safety of a child in distress. When Ms. Elaine Murray of Childline ISPCC spoke of the many thousands of calls from troubled children, it seemed so appropriate that the children of Little Flower N.S. would respond so positively. Ms. Murray thanked the children for their initiative, hard work and enthusiasm in this entrepreneurial and musical project. A crescendo of excitement arose from the young admirers when Ambassador for Childline, Mr. Nicky Byrne, of Westlife and 2fm, rose to speak of his great support over many years for the ISPCC. One could hear a pin drop as he glowingly spoke of his admiration of the effort and talent that combined to make this night and of course the cd a success. He complimented the children on their singing and wished them the very best with their CD. The next speaker admitted that he himself wasn’t a singer, but to nudge a thoroughbred past the post and win by a short head was enough for the children to give a huge ovation to local champion jockey, Mr. Joseph O’Brien. How gracious, on his 21st birthday, that he found time to share with the children on this special night. The highlight of the night was when both Nicky and Joseph officially launched the charity single “Freedom.”
This song was written by one of the parents of the school and all 84 children from Junior Infants to sixth class are singing on the recording. The children gave a live rendition of the song on the night to the delight of all. The evening concluded with a mingling of children, parents, friends and celebrities over a cupán tae and some luscious finger food. CD is available from the school at 0504 41323 for €5 or can be downloaded from itunes by typing ‘Ballytarsna’ into the store search engine.
